London welcomes back Olympic heroes
The City of London wanted a grand gathering to welcome back Team Great Britain and Paralympics Great Britain from Beijing.
We conceived an embracing homecoming parade through London, culminating in a staged celebratory event in Trafalgar Square.
We designed and executed the parade – a procession of floats carrying the combined squads through London’s crowd-filled streets. Our work included liaising with local authorities and emergency services to handle the large audiences and necessary traffic closures. In Trafalgar Square our team built a large stage in front of the National Portrait Gallery allowing the athletes to disembark and be interviewed live in front of 10,000 fans and millions of television viewers.
Welcoming home Great Britain’s greatest athletes
Once all teams had been celebrated, we created a finale sequence – a ‘family’ photograph of all the athletes – and incorporated a rousing speech by Mayor Boris Johnson. The BBC televised the live event and it was covered by all major media.
