For the last twenty-five years, Jim has created internationally recognized and award-winning designs for theater, broadcast, restaurants, museums and corporate events. A former senior designer at ABC, Jim founded Production Design Group Ltd. in 1990. Since then, he has brought innovative set design to network and cable television, news, talk and sports programming, combining the latest technology with a visionary creative approach. In 2000, PDG became part of Jack Morton, which has enabled PDG to expand its global reach into retail environments, interior design, exhibits and corporate branding.
The recipient of 20 Emmy Awards and 26 BDA awards, Jim has designed sets for every major network and cable group. Some of his most memorable work includes CTV’s Vancouver Olympics coverage, “Democracy Plaza” in Rockefeller Center for NBC’s 2004, 2008, and 2012 Election Night coverage, 2012 Republican National Convention, NBC’s Education Nation in 2011 and 2012, Piers Morgan Tonight, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and The Colbert Report. Jim’s other Emmy awards include Martha Stewart’s daytime television show Martha, winning in both 2005 and 2009.
Recent work includes designs for CBS This Morning, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Meredith Vieira Show, The View, Good Morning Britain for ITV, sets for ESPN’s new digital center – which include the new SportsCenter and NFL sets, and the new sports complex for NBC Sports Network in Stamford, CT, including the set for Football Night in America. Jim also created the design for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in the iconic Ed Sullivan theater.
