In a city that has to adapt to cultural changes as rapidly as Hong Kong, you’d think diversity and inclusion would go hand in hand. But the reality is that we all tend to stick to our communities. Even at work, we rarely reveal the personal aspects of our lives that inform our points of view.
We work together side by side every day, but how well do we know each other? We set out to explore the passions, skills and preferences of each other by sharing personal experiences with colleagues we don’t always have the opportunity to socialize with.
Take a Jack
Take A Jack, our diversity and inclusion initiative, was launched with the goal of connecting colleagues with one another by sharing unique activities or experiences that revealed something a bit deeper about their characters. The prompts included food, place, skill or hobby. Each Jack team member was then paired with a colleague to share an experience.

As people showcased the skills they could teach or recommended places to visit, we all grew more inspired. So much so that we opened up these paired activities so that the whole office could join in.
Over the last two months, we saw Jacks share lessons in CAD, fine drawing, Ultimate Frisbee, the world’s best guacamole (thanks to Roberto). And most enthusiastically—dragon boat racing. We shared games of squash and bowling, we took each other out for massage and nail appointments and shared so. much. food.
Most of all, we shared our own personalities. And in doing so, we embraced all the beautiful individual things that make us unique.
